Williams driver Pastor Maldonado has been issued with two five-place grid penalties for next weekend's Italian Grand Prix, meaning a ten-place demotion in real terms.
Maldonado's first penalty was issued as the result of the Venezuelan's jump start this afternoon; he would have been penalised early on in the race had he not retired on lap 5, when the stewards were still busy investigating the first corner incident that led to Romain Grosjean's one-race ban.
The second penalty was for causing a collision with Marussia driver Timo Glock; Maldonado retired as a result of damage incurred in that crash.
Given Maldonado's tradition of hot-headed driving, which started early on in his career and has been demonstrated at nearly every race of the season, it seems strange that the Williams driver has not been penalised further for his persistently dangerous behaviour on track.
