Everyone thinks F1 is glamorous. And from the outside, it is. What could be slicker than a group of millionaires playing with expensive toys in exotic locales on a bi-weekly basis?

But as is the case with pretty much everything in life, the smooth exterior disguises the blood, sweat, and toil that makes it all possible, much like a swan gliding along the surface of the water disguises the frantic efforts taking place below. For every champagne party in Monaco there's a post-redeye baby wipe shower in an airport bathroom stall. For every team dinner there's a solo 1 a.m. supper in the hotel room courtesy of petrol station catering.

Sometimes, however, this life is all about the glamour. And that was the case this week, when I got to spend a week in Miami in the company of one of my favourite paddock people. If you don't like cocktails and sunsets, look away now...

You clearly need a bit of Snetterton to cure those happiness blues.

Scotland is freezing and I'm jealous. Even though I don't like cocktails. How do you write so well you make me want things I don't even like?!

Aww, thanks! Although in this case I think the pictures did the writing for me...

As your holiday is what people think your job is like, you may have trouble convincing people you actually have to do work sometimes :)

Agreed :P

Kate, any chance of a couple of pieces in 2013 of the utter worst of being an F1 journalist? Just so we don't feel bad sitting at our desks in mundane rat-race jobs?

That sounds like a great idea!

Because there've been a lot of cross-continent overnight coaches to European races in my past, and that's a horrible way to arrive at a circuit at 8am...

Its great see you partying, even though we might not be there with you physically, but with your tweets and images we feel like as always you have taken us there. Even when you are having great party time, where you have every right to be private, you do not forget us, your fans. Thank you so much

:) Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! TBH, the rest of my off-season has involved being glued to my laptop getting stuff done, so it's not all glamour and sunsets!
